just out

our visit to the sandspit beach yesterday was one of the most surprising and fulfilling experiences of my life. we have been visiting this beach often for the last 10 years, but yesterday was the first time we saw green sea turtles hatching and crawling off to the sea!
i only wish my camera batteries hadn't gone out or i would have taken some more shots.
sandspit is also known as 'turtle beach' hundreds of turtles comes to lay there eggs on its sandy beaches. sadly, if left unmonitored, the stray dogs, eagles and sea gulls make a meal out of them before they reach the sea. we saw 3 go safely in. there were about 20 more but eagles n gulls had started circling above us. so a local collected them in a bucket to release them into the sea at night- away from the hungry birds.
a beautiful sight!
